Founded in 2015, ZBGC is a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring this gem of a botanical garden on the banks of Lady Bird Lake. In 2017, we contributed to the first major construction project in the garden in 15 years, transforming an aging water feature into a beautiful stream and riparian garden. We also helped to expand the Oak Grove, move the herb garden back into the sun, and restore views of downtown Austin. Next up – a master plan to create a cohesive vision for this treasured city amenity. Further down the line: a capital campaign.
A garden is much more than plants, however. It’s a place to build community. This 28-acre haven, located right downtown, is accessible to all. We welcome more than 130,000 visitors a year, host more than 30 active garden clubs and provide free transportation and hands-on science education to kids from Title 1 schools.
